Love Stories

Asheville Elopement Photography by Andy Wickstrom

More Fun. Less Stress.

Maybe you don’t love being the center of attention, or your hectic work schedule doesn’t allow a lot of time for planning a big wedding.

This might not be your first marriage, or maybe you just want to prioritize a quiet outdoor experience with your partner over a splashy event with a ton of guests.

Whatever your reason for choosing to elope, you deserve a truly unforgettable experience—beautifully documented by a photographer who’s not only fun and easy to be around, but also organized and creative enough to capture your day in a vibrant, heartfelt way.

Weddings can get complicated. Let’s make photography the easy part.

I’m Andy Wickstrom—your stoked-to-be-outside Asheville elopement and wedding photographer. With 10+ years of outdoor experience behind the camera, I’ve spent countless hours chasing the good light, scrambling on rocks for the most creative angles, and applying that experience to couples like you who value presence and connection.

So think of me as your energetic, camera-wielding mountain-loving friend who’s here to help you plan a wedding day that’s slower, simpler, and has YOU written all over it.

Plan your wedding like a local, with a local.

This region is packed with incredible trails, overlooks, and tucked-away spots—but sorting through it all can be a lot, especially if you’re coming in from out of town.

When we work together, I take time to understand what you’re looking for and use that vision to recommend locations that fit—not just for the ceremony, but for the experiences before and afterwards. I scout in advance, keep tabs on weather and lighting, and always have backup options ready.

I’m big on preparation because it frees us up to be present in the moment when we know what to expect and have everything we need to be comfortable and have fun.

Whether we’re chasing light on a high ridge, or capturing drone shots where feet can’t go, I’m ready to meet the day where it takes us and capture the moments throughout.

Hi, I’m Andy!

I’m an adventure photographer, a dad, a life-long climber, a coffee and beer lover, and former RV-dweller. After spending 5 years living on the road with my wife (and our dog, Pickle), we now live in Asheville, NC with our daughters.

MountainWed is for couples like you who want something smaller, more exciting, slower, and memorable on their biggest day.

With every wedding I document, I apply years of outdoor adventure photography experience, detailed planning expertise, and golden-retriever energy. Not only should your wedding day look like you, I want the photos to exude the same excitement you felt when you exchanged vows above endless miles of wilderness.

Why Choose MountainWed

Creative, Stand-out Imagery

Not just “pretty photos”—I’m always chasing the fleeting, in-between moments that make your day feel alive. I want my work to look different, but what matters more is the intention behind it: unique, artful images that capture the emotion and energy of your wedding day in a way with a visual language or composition that hits different when you look back.

Dialed-In Locations + Light Literacy

I’m picky (in a good way) about where we go. I’m looking for places that are genuinely beautiful and photograph beautifully—privacy, views, trail vibe, ease, and the overall experience. I also plan around light, seasons, and weather, so we’re not just picking a spot randomly—we’re setting you up for the best version of that spot on your date through extensive planning, research, and experience.

Outdoor Skillset You Can Feel Confident In

I’m not a “wedding photographer trying the outdoors”—adventure photography is in my roots.

My background as a climber, road-life remote-work creative, and outdoor photographer, means I’m favorite place on rugged terrain. I feel confident here and move around efficiently, respectful of the environment, and am ready to adapt when conditions change.

Friendly, Easygoing Experience

I work hard to make things feel easy, clear, and effortless for every couple. I’m easy to reach, clear and organized with logistics, recommendations, and more.

I’ll give simple direction when you need it, or read the room and step back so the real stuff can happen. My priority is in creating space on your day so that you can be present, have fun, and actually enjoy everything from start to finish.

If you decide that I’m the right fit, reserve your date with a deposit and signed contract and you can officially check “find photographer” off the to-do list.

Step 4: Get Hitched

You’ve done the connecting, booking, and planning—now you get to live it. No second-guessing, no rushing, no trying to “perform” for photos. Just a meaningful day together, and I’ll be there to capture it honestly: emotion, atmosphere, details, and all.

Timeless Film Nostalgia

Let’s make the time to craft some special film portraits on your wedding day.

For me, including a few film photos on your wedding day isn’t about being trendy—it’s about capturing moments in a slower, more thoughtful way.

With film, every shot is carefully composed and meticulously captured, which is why the result is so amazing. Plus, in this era of screens, having a physical artifact from your wedding day is also special.

Film has a special look. The colors feel natural and rich, and the photos have a depth that’s hard to explain—but easy to feel. Unlike digital files made of 1s and 0s, film creates a physical piece of your day. And in 2026, that kind of realness is still something special.
