Elopements + Small Weddings | Digital storytelling + 35mm & 120mm FilmFilm + Digital Coverage in Asheville, Western NC, and the Blue Ridge Mountains
I’m an Asheville-based elopement and small wedding photographer offering a mix of digital + film coverage across Western North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you’re looking for an Asheville film elopement photographer, I shoot digital for the full story of your day, and I weave in 35mm film (and sometimes medium format) for a more timeless, textured, analog look — especially for portraits and the in-between moments that deserve to slow down.
Who This Is For
This page is for couples who love film’s colors and texture (or keep saving film photos without even realizing it) — couples who want something timeless and mysterious, photos lacking that pixel perfection. They want photos with heart; photos that feel honest.
If you like the idea of slowing down for a few frames, choosing the moment on purpose, and walking away with something that feels tangible and real… film is it. It’s not perfect in a “polished and precise” way, and that’s the whole point. Film lets the highlights bloom a little, lets the grain show up, and reminds you that a wedding day doesn’t need to be flawless to be beautiful.
If you’re planning an elopement or small wedding near Asheville and you want a gallery that feels warm, real, and not overly polished — film fits right in.
Film Photography, On Purpose
I shoot digital constantly. It’s fast, flexible, and it covers the whole story without missing a beat.
But… I also shoot film — because it forces me to creatively switch gears, which can jump-start the artist in us.
With the old camera’s I have, I’m thinking about the film I have loaded, the light, how I’m metering, where I want the shadows to sit, and whether the moment is worth burning a frame on.
No machine-gun bursts. No ‘we’ll fix it later’, and I low-key happily take on the challenge of nailing a shot I can visualize - but do it in one click, on film.
Another reason is film also has its own vibe: natural color, texture, a little grain, and a slightly less perfect edge than digital — which is honestly refreshing on a wedding day. It feels real.
Which is why I bring film along to the mountains as often as possible without being asked, and you’ll see it built into a most of my packages.
If you want even more analog frames mixed into your gallery, reach out and we can nerd out on some film grain for a sec and figure out a way to emphasize the filmic over the digital for your wild wedding.
DIGITAL covers the full story. FILM is the intentional layer we weave in (without slowing your day down.)
How Film Fits Into a Real Wedding Day
Film doesn’t mean we pause the day for an hour-long photoshoot.
Most of the time, it looks like a few intentional pockets:
5–10 minutes here and there when the light is right
a handful of special portraits with simple, natural direction
candid moments sprinkled in (the stuff you won’t notice until you see it later)
details that actually matter — hands, special details, place, weather, movement
What You’ll Receive
You’ll get a full gallery that feels cohesive — not “two different styles fighting each other.”
Typically, that means:
full digital storytelling coverage
a curated set of film frames mixed into the final gallery (quality > quantity)
film scanned and edited to match the overall feel of your photos
If film is a priority for you, tell me early. I’ll make sure we build it in intentionally instead of squeezing it in randomly.
A Few Recent Film Frames
Here are a few recent frames shot on 120 and 35mm film — which gives you a few examples of why it’s so amazing (and fun to include on your wedding day).

If you’re even thinking about film, reach out. You don’t need to have it all figured out — I’ll help you decide what makes sense for your day and how to weave it in without making anything feel staged or slowed down. Just mention that you want some film coverage during your day is all the info I need to start.
FAQ
Do you shoot 35mm film?
Yes. I shoot 35mm film alongside digital coverage—especially for portraits, candid moments, and anything that’ll benefit from that timeless texture and color.
Do you shoot medium format film too?
Sometimes, yes. Medium format film is slower and more deliberate, so I’ll recommend it when it makes sense for your timeline and the kind of images you want (think: a few “wow” frames that feel extra classic).
Is film included, or is it an add-on?
Depends on the package you choose. I include film in many of my packages. I also offer film as an add-on if you want to keep things simple but still get that analog layer. If you inquire, I’ll help you pick the option that fits your day and your priorities.
How many film photos will we get?
Enough to matter. Film is intentionally a select part of the gallery—quality over quantity. Once I know your timeline and what you’re drawn to, I can give you a clearer range.
When will we receive the film photos?
Film has to be developed and scanned, so it’s not instant. In most cases, film images are delivered with your full gallery (or added in shortly after, depending on lab timing, when I finish a roll, and when I get the photos scanned and edited). I’ll set expectations clearly so you’re never guessing.
I always endeavor to deliver photos (both film and digital) at the same time with your final gallery link.
Can we do “mostly film” coverage?
Great question. I haven’t had a couple ask that, so if it’s something you’re interested in, I’m happy to explore it!
Sometimes, yes—especially for shorter days or portrait-focused coverage. Most couples still choose a film + digital blend because it keeps the storytelling complete, but if you’re dreaming of heavier film coverage, tell me. We’ll talk it through.
We’ve never been photographed on film. Is it awkward?
Not at all. You don’t need to know what to do. My job is to keep things easy, give simple direction when you want it, and leave space for real moments when you don’t. The main difference for some shots is simply the time it takes to ensure correct settings, focus, and composition. It’s a minor difference over all though, and worth the effort and time!
Do you help us choose locations with film in mind?
No, locations aren’t chosen with film in mind - but I can usually tell when film will really sing based on the light we are seeing. Time of day is probably the biggest factor since my bag will have certain ISO films - as well as black and white versus color.
Things like: the landscape, flower colors, shadows, wardrobe, details, etc., can often look amazing on film and I’ll help us notice those things throughout our session together. If something looks like it could be a perfect shot for film, I’ll get to work capturing it in this wonderful medium.
